New Happenings at The Design Cottage

There are so many new happenings going on in the shop this Fall.  We are undergoing a massive transformation turning The Design Cottage into THE destination in Tacoma for all things home.  We have been working day and night to bring new home decor lines in while arranging the store to be more browser friendly.  You may have noticed that our front windows have been given new life and it is only a preview of what you will now discover at The Design Cottage.

You will find everything you need for inspiration at The Design Cottage.

A large assortment of Voluspa candles that will melt your senses.

A vast assortment of unique and fun soaps from Gianna Rose.

A tabletop line from France, made in France. This exquisite line of tabletop and fine linens is exclusive to The Design Cottage in Tacoma.

Custom lamp shades on vintage bases can be found throughout the store!

This line of custom jewelry from a talented local artist is just one example of the treasures you will find at The Design Cottage.

No Green Thumb Required

We can’t get enough of these artfully arranged, whimsical terrariums made by local artist, Fawn Freeman. They are a great way to try your hand at indoor container gardening — no green thumb required! Even if you are a serial plant killer, you can grow a terrarium easily and successfully.

We carry a nice variety of terrariums, so come check out our selection. We love pairing local artists with our customers to make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for, so
(as with many of the hand-crafted items we carry) custom requests are always available.

Our Television Debut

Diane demonstrates painting techniques in her Annie Sloan (TM) Chalk Paint workshop

We are absolutely thrilled to be part of “Business Matters” on TV Tacoma channel 12. With a little help from some friends, Diane’s camera shoot was a total success! Special thanks to Dave “the camera guy” (who was completely wonderful in helping settle all those pre-camera jitters and set Diane at ease for her interview) and a big “thank you” to our good pals Betty, Syd, Bonnie, and Melissa for going the extra mile to take part in the photo shoot! You all helped make the whole experience an absolute delight!

“Business Matters” airs weekly on public cable channel 12. It’s a great show that features local business leaders and works to provide an inside perspective on Tacoma’s business community. Tune in to watch Diane’s interview beginning July 16th.

Before & After

We posted a teaser photo of this lovely antique chest of drawers a couple weeks back, and we are happy to reveal the finished product! Here is the end result with Annie Sloan (TM) Chalk Paint using Old White and Dark Wax. Love, love, love the look and feel of this piece! A second dresser was paired with it, and they make quite the couple. Enjoy!

How would you update this little piece of loveliness?

Wow! May was a crazy month! Our little store has just been hopping! We’ve had some great vintage pieces come in for a little sprucing up, and some for a complete makeover (enter our creative team!).

The hot color the last two weeks has definitely been Provence — we can’t keep it on the shelf! Our customers are so excited about the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (TM) Decorative Paint (and rightfully so). Paint parties are popping up all over, and outdated, thrift-store-bound furniture is getting a second chance at life. I mean, why replace your furniture when you can update it with a whole new look?

We’re challenging our customers to take before & after photos of their projects (bragging rights, people!) Speaking of outdated furniture, we have a gorgeous vintage dresser and an accompanying chest of drawers + mirror that are getting loved on at the moment. I’ll post photos of the rework next week, so stay tuned! BUT! For now, here’s a little teaser. How would you update this little piece of loveliness???

Stay inspired!
